Drain replacement

Subject No: 5
Subject: Drain replacement
Introducing Officer: R Braid (Bournemouth BC)
Date: 12/11/1998

Bournemouth has always had a policy of asking for Building Notices for partial drain replacement.

Some builders have alleged that some other Authorities do not ask for applications for this work.

POLICY STATEMENT

A Building Control application (Building Notice) will be required for all substantial drain replacements. Minor isolated repairs need not be controlled.

It should be ensured that reasonable access is provided for rodding and clearing.

The consensus of opinion was that the practice of sleeving 100mm plastic pipes through existing 150mm diameter clay pipes is not acceptable as the line and level of the existing pipes cannot be adequately checked and the new pipe may not be adequately supported.

Completion Certificates will refer to Partial Drain Replacement only unless the complete system up to the point of connection to the sewer is replaced.
