RULES FOR EXEMPTION

APPLICATION
An agricultural building means a building used for agriculture, or principally for the keeping of animals.

Provided that:-

  • No part is used as a dwelling.
  • The building is sited at least 1 1 / 2 times its height from any other building containing sleeping accommodation. To measure height take the mid point on roof slope between eaves and ridge measured from mean ground level.
  • The building is provided with a fire exit which is not more than 30 metres from any point within the building.
  • A greenhouse used for retailing, packing or exhibiting produce is NOT exempt.

USES
Agriculture includes:-

  • Horticulture
  • Fruit growing
  • Growing plants for seed
  • Fish farming.

Note:- If the proposed building is to be provided with electrical lighting and/or electrical sockets, an application for the electrical work will be required as indicated in Approved Document P of the Building Regulations.

Planning Permission may be required . You should therefore telephone your Local Authority and ask for Development Control for more information. N.B. Measurement rules quoted relate to Building Regulations only, different rules apply in planning legislation.
