Dorset Building Control Technical Committee

Foul Drainage Systems

All Building Control staff have been instructed to witness a test (air or water) on all foul drains. Drains will be checked before they have been backfilled to ensure satisfactory standards in relation to:

  • DRAIN MATERIAL
  • BEDDING MATERIAL
  • LAYOUT
  • FALLS
  • INSPECTION CHAMBERS
  • RODDING EYES
  • ACCESS POINTS AND CONNECTION TO THE SEWER.

If drains are covered over before inspection a Completion Certificate will NOT be issued. Builders must give proper notice that drains are on test and ready for inspection. {See Regulation 14 (2) (b)}

Building Control staff are always happy to advise on drainage proposals.

If you have any queries please contact your Local Building Control Section.
